Many small businesses in the Northeast walked into flooded offices with damaged servers the morning after Hurricane Irene. At least one of these businesses was able to have their server image, applications, and data quickly restored so they could access patient schedules and deal with customer payments.
After Hurricane Irene drove flood waters through the prosthodontics office of Dr. Mary Anne Salcetti, she wanted her staff to be able to quickly contact patients to reschedule appointments. She also wanted to get her practice management software up-and-running right away so as to avoid any gap in patient care or in recording payment information. Dr. Salcetti has been restoring patients’ smiles with prosthodontics, implants, and cosmetic dentistry in New York’s Hudson Valley region since 1987.
Fortunately, Dr. Salcetti was using Integrated Enterprise Solutions (IES) for her business technology solutions, and had chosen to have IES implement Axcient for complete data backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity. As soon as Dr. Salcetti contacted IES about the flooded office and downed servers, they were able to assess the situation and get her systems back up and running .
IES saved the data and saved the day by bringing in a laptop and connecting via LAN to the on-site Axcient appliance, which had been elevated above the water level in Dr. Salcetti’s office, then used Axcient’s business continuity capability to launch the server on the Axcient appliance. With the appliance acting as the server as long as it takes to repair or replace the old server, Dr. Salcetti’s front office staff is now using one of their surviving workstations to access patient schedules and deal with customer payments. One laptop was set up in an operatory room with access to the practice management software so that Dr. Salcetti can serve urgent patient needs. Using another laptop running Quicken, IES mapped the drive to the Axcient server image for full access to the financial data.
